The Linslade Galaxy tournament continued apace on its second day. On a fine sunny Sunday it was great to see so many teams visit Cedars and so many kids playing football in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
The morning session was the turn of the U6 age and U8 age groups. Whatever these teams lacked in experience and size, they more than made up for in determination, effort and no small amount of skill. The future of English football is surely safe!
Well done to all the participating U6 teams who each went home with a trophy and the players well deserving of their medals. As for the U8 main Cup winners, congratulations to Houghton Athletic.
The afternoon session was even busier with 12 teams participating in our U10 competition and 10 teams in the U12 competition. Again the quality of play was there for all to see, with some closely matched games, particularly at the knockout stage. Houghton Athletic took home their second Cup of the day as they were winners of the U10 competition, whilst Tattenhoe Reds secured the U12 Cup.
However, this tournament was so much more than about the winners. It was the simple joy of kids playing football, the smile on people's faces, the ice creams and the burgers, the visit from MK Dons Set, and the charity stall raising £453 for Wellchild, that made this such a great weekend.
And don't just take my word for it:
"What a superb tournament - You guys should be proud. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves - Thank you so much for the opportunity to play and have fun" (Steve - Bedford Town U8s)
"Well done for organising a brilliant tournament yesterday. The group of young lads who were organising and reffing the U7s games were brilliant. Communication and control of the games was fantastic. See you next year!" (Tattenhoe Youth Jags)
"Just to say we had a fantastic time at the tournament this morning. Our referee was very fair and professional. Many thanks". (Walton MK Hawks U9)
