After a lot of preparation (mostly done by Steve!) and a great effort by the coaches in setting up the pitches last night, Cedars looked immaculate as the first ever Linslade Galaxy tournament kicked off.
The morning session saw the U7 and U9 age groups take the field and it was great to see so many teams visiting Leighton Buzzard and enjoying the fine June weather. There was no shortage of action and some really skilful players on the pitch. Well done to Kempston Rovers U7 and Houghton Athletic U9 for taking home the main trophies!
After lunch was the turn of the U11 and U15 age groups. The great play continued unabated as all teams had something to play for as the knockout stage involved all teams. Unsurprisingly the semi-finals and finals were tight affairs with memorable penalty shoot out wins for U15 Pumas, U15 Boca and U11 Spartak. In the end U11 Spartak and U15 Boca ensured it was a home double as Galaxy won both the main cups. Congratulations also to U11 Sporting for winning the U11 Trophy.
It was good to see that our beat the keeper area was busy too, particularly in the morning, and raising £162 for the Well Child, the National UK charity for seriously ill children.
All in all it was a great day. It was great to receive so much positive feedback on how the tournament was run and the fun, friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
The tournament continues tomorrow with four more age groups. So please come along and support your teams and the tournament.
