U14 SPARTAK DOMINATE JPL OPPOSITION IN FRIENDLY

Philip Stanley25 Jan - 16:36

Cheshunt no match for Spartak as Galaxy score four

Friendly fixture
Linslade Galaxy U14 Spartak 4 v 0 Cheshunt Youth U14 JPL

As both teams lined up in dry and sunny conditions, Spartak knew that their opposition were a strong and talented side and that this was going to be a good test against a non-MKDDL side.

It was Spartak that started the brightest and the first good chance came from a corner after the Cheshunt goalie could only parry away but Galaxy could not poke the ball home. However, it only took a further two minutes to open the scoring. After good work from Matthew and Ethan the ball fell to Charlie, whose first time shot swerved to fool the goalkeeper and give Linslade the lead.

Just two minutes later a lovely cross pass from Matthew put Charlie in the clear, but this time his shot went tamely wide. After 12 minutes it was Luke W's turn to give the excellent through ball. Ethan got passed one defender but his shot across the keeper went wide. Then, Dylan battled through and shot just over. The game was proving to be attack after attack by Spartak.

After that flurry of action, the game settled down a little and there were no clear cut chances in the next 10 minutes, just off target long range efforts from Elliot and Charlie, but Galaxy were still clearly on top.

It took until the 27th minute for the first chance for Cheshunt from a corner where their attacker had a clear header but his effort flew over the bar.

Overall, it was a really positive first half for Spartak as they dominated territory and possession. Cheshunt were demonstrating good build up play, but couldn't produce anything in the final third. However, with only one goal between the teams there was still all to play for.

In the second half there were early efforts from Luke N and Charlie, which continued the theme from the first half. And eventually the sustained pressure from Galaxy led to a second goal. The ball was fed to Ethan who struck beautifully from 25 yards and the ball dipped under the bar to double Galaxy's lead.

Five minutes later Charlie did really well to storm into the box. His shot from a right angle hit the post and rebounded to Jack R. His first time effort was beautifully struck and flew into the back of the net to make the score 3-0.

Linslade's fourth and final goal was all Mali. He got round keeper who then fouled him. Mali duly scored the resultant penalty with a neat strike into the corner of the goal.

Cheshunt weren't allowed to play by the constant Spartak press but they will be disappointed by the quality of their final ball which so often went harmlessly out or straight to Thomas.

On the other hand, Spartak will be delighted by this dominant performance and can take a lot of confidence into their County Cup fixture next Saturday.
