Fantastic all round display sees Spartak secure dominant win

MKDDL U14 Division 1
Linslade Galaxy U14 Spartak 8 v 1 AFC Oakley U14 Tornadoes

There was some nervousness ahead of the match as Storm Bert lashes Britain and Spartak knew that their opponents today, AFC Oakley, were a very good team and one who will battle until the end as demonstrated by their last second equaliser in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

However, on both counts any nerves were quickly settled. Fortunately, the storm had not really arrived when the match kicked off and light and rain and blustery wind did not affect the game at all. On the pitch there was early pressure from Spartak, which led to Tycho receiving the ball outside the box. He strode past one player and hit the ball well. It hit the defender on its way in to give Spartak the lead.

Oakley had started slowly but after 15 minutes began to demonstrate their own attacking qualities. But, just as Oakley were getting back into the game, Spartak regained possession and quickly turned it into attack. It came to Luke W on the edge of the box and his snap shot squirmed under the keeper to make the score 2-0.

Just three minutes later Spartak displayed some fantastic passing, particularly from Joseph and Tycho. The ball eventually came to Jack J who struck a thunderous shot from 30 yards that flew into the back of the net giving the away keeper no chance. Then, before Oakley knew what had hit them, Ethan gambled in the box and was ready to pounce on the rebound to give Linslade their fourth goal.

The chances in the first half did not stop there. After 27 minutes there was some lovely interplay between Jack R and Luke W, which led to a Jack R shot that hit the outside of the post from a tight angle. Four minutes later it was Dylan's turn to strike from distance and it curled beautifully into the far corner and, to the delight and slight amazement of the home crowd, made the score 5-0.

This was a half of total football from Spartak. Thomas was not troubled in goal and Oakley simply could not cope with Galaxy's slick passing and accurate long-range shots.

The Oakley coach had obviously said some choice words to his players in the half-time break as his team came out more determined and overall made the second half much more of a game.

However, despite their best efforts, it seemed as this was going to be a day when every Linslade long-range shot was going to go in. This time, after good interplay between Matthew and Dylan, Dylan's shot from 30 yards looped under bar. This really knocked the stuffing out of Oakley who had started the second half much more strongly.

8 minutes into the second half came another superb Galaxy team goal. Kiro did really well on the left hand side and passed to Luke W. He then passed through to Jack R who stroked the ball neatly into far corner, making the scoreline 7-0.

Midway through the second half Oakley scored after allowing the midfield / defence allowed the striker to turn and shoot. Galaxy will be disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet, but it was a well taken effort.

Most of the dangerous moments, however, continued to be generated by Spartak. One chance resulted from good passing from Kiro and Luke W. The ball came through to Niall who shot from 6 yards. Somehow the keeper got a finger to it and it hit underside of the bar. Niall wasn't to be denied, though, as in the penultimate minute he twisted and turned in the box and fired home from 10 yards to score Galaxy's eighth and final goal.

This was a match where Galaxy were on top from the very first minute, battling hard when needed but also showing some lovely passing moves. Luke N and Owen were very solid in the back as Oakley had more of an attacking threat in the second half, whilst Kiro, Matthew and Niall showed some lovely touches. Fantastic strikes from Jack J and Dylan sealed the deal, but it was great to see seven different goal scorers today.

Onwards and upwards for Spartak, who now find themselves third in the Division 1 table.
