Five away goals as Boca take all three points against AFC Oakley

(Many thanks to Rob Lane for the match report)

AFC Oakley U16 Vipers 1 - 5 Linslade Galaxy U16 Boca Juniors

After a week off because of a postponed fixture, Boca were back in business away to Oakley Vipers. It was a cold, grey morning but it was dry and the Oakley pitch was like a carpet.

Boca started the game superbly, despite the week off, they showed the same intensity that had brought them victory against Corinthians but this time Boca showed more composure in possession and were making the most of the great playing surface.

Jack Welchman and Callum Scott started the game strongly in midfield, Will Gibson-Housden & Harry Shore were playing simple but controlled passes out from the back and helping Boca to keep their width.

A great move, started by Jack, built down the Boca left. Louis Woodford combined with Zach Theodorou and then Louis played the ball into the box. Oakley cleared the box but only as far as Callum Scott, who hammered his finish from about 25 yards straight into the top left corner of the net, 1-0.

Very soon after, Boca were on the attack again down the left. This time Boca lost the ball but Zach hunted it down, beat two defenders and then slotted his left foot finish into the bottom right corner of the net, 2-0.

Boca were now in full control of the match. They were playing some fabulous, flowing football. Out through the full backs, into midfield, out to the wingers and resetting play when they were blocked off by the Oakley defence. Ivan Pastore was on top form at left back, winning his battles and then picking his passes. Ano Parwaringira was particularly impressive at right back. He was moving onto the ball, playing quick link passes into midfield and then driving on down the right wing, overlapping his midfield partner, like Cafu or Reece James. It was sensational to watch.

The third Galaxy goal arrived from a Boca corner. Callum delivered a sweet inswinging cross into the centre of the Oakley 6 yard box and Will attacked the ball, nodding into the roof of the Vipers net, 3-0.

The match became a bit more of a midfield battle in the period before half time, Oakley weren't offering anything in attack but they were organised and managed to block a number of Boca efforts.

In the second half, Boca were even more dominant in possession. Oakley sat back in a low block and this allowed Galaxy to play the ball around. Joe Carr, Tom Alexander and Callum were playing some superb, 1 & 2 touch passing football. The ball was played into the midfield, back out to the defence and out to the wings. Oakley were pinned back in their half.

A great chance fell to Luca Le Gassicke when the ball was whipped in from the right side of the pitch, Luca met the cross on the volley and crashed his shot against the Vipers bar. It would have been a stunning goal of it had gone in!

Late in the game, Zach was moved to the left wing and against a tiring Oakley defence Boca began to make more great chances. A beautiful move involving Bobby Forsythe & Louis led to a cross into the Oakley 6 yard box. Zach arrived from the left side and tucked his finish past the Oakley keeper, 4-0.

Soon after, Zach broke away down the Boca left. He used his pace to go across the Vipers right back, cut into the penalty area and then slotted his finish inside the near post with his right foot, Thierry Henry would have been proud, 5-0.

Boca were now a little excited by their dominance and got caught out on a counter attack for the first time in the game. Jack did well to get back and break up the initial attack but the ball broke to an Oakley forward on the edge of the area. The forward hammered his finish off the inside of the inside of the left post, there was nothing that goalie Dan Ingram could do about it, 5-1.

Overall Boca had played fantastically well. There could have been several contenders for Gartec Player of the Match and if Ano had not got injured in the second half, it probably would have been him. The award went to Callum, who was fabulous from start to finish. His goal was beautiful but his passing and work rate won him the award. Callum looked to play simple today, he played wide passes, direct passes and was at the heart of everything.
