A muddy mess, and that wasn’t just Livi rolling around in goal making some great saves!
Despite the horrid weather and complete mud pit of a pitch, I was really impressed with the energy everyone brought to the game today. The passing was strong throughout, with opportunities being taken to switch the play when this was needed. Most importantly, I heard the team encouraging each other and using great communication throughout.
As a team, they should feel they can try new things and develop in their football together. If something doesn’t go to plan, shaking it off, being brave, and trying again. This was demonstrated today, which was great to see. Well done to our player of the match, Alex. He worked hard to make those tackles and put into the practice what we’ve been doing in training and our strategy talk before the match.
Alex was asked to control the through balls, look for a quick pass to teammates and then provide an option for a return pass. Alex did exactly this and was rewarded with two great worked goals that finished off brilliant team play. Even the opposition coach clapped and commented on these passages of play today! Plenty of other great passing and team play followed. Some great finishes from Timmy, George, Rico, Alex and Harrison and one really hard muddy ball (at full pelt) in the face, leaving him with a near perfect ball print to his face and the rest of the Kempston pitch up his nose and in his eye! And he still got up!
Great passes from the back by Sepo, Charlie and Maddox, and some really important tackles every time the team got through on goal. I was really pleased with these three looking for the passes out wide to begin our attacks. Livi was called upon frequently and made some great saves, great long kicks out from goal and positioned herself really well to save the shots. By the end of the game, her pink top was soooo muddy, so good luck with that washing Emma and Dave!
Thanks again everyone for braving another cold, wet, muddy morning, and enjoy the rest Sunday afternoon.
One very proud coach, Jimmy
